The process undertaken to reach the final 3 Billy Blue images was painstaking yet rewarding. Creating the handcrafted paper models was a journey which involved much experimentation and lateral thinking. We developed a story based on the themes; Thinking, Making & Connecting. This allowed us to develop each campaign image around one of these words, working both as a series and individually.

Hundreds of paper shapes were folded for each campaign image, sustaining only a single paper cut. The shapes were then carefully arranged and suspended to be photographed. Once we were happy with the final composition, the images had all the wires and imperfections taken out via digital retouching.

We are absolutely thrilled to have won the QANTAS Spirit of Youth Awards for the category of Visual Communication. We flew to Sydney for the awards ceremony and somehow came back with some prizes and a mentorship with amazingly talented designer, art director and illustrator- Deanne Cheuk. We’re extremely excited and honoured to be recognised in such a competitive field of amazing designers.
