Custom Typeface

Born as a custom typeface for a branding project and composed entirely of cross’s Kevin, is inspired by the geometry and consistency of cross-stitching.  Kevin is delicate yet courageous, classic with digital sub references.

Album Artwork

After a decade and five successful albums as lead singer of Australian cult band, The Cat Empire, Felix Riebl took some time out to pursue his solo projects. Motherbird worked collaboratively with Felix to establish his identity as a singer/songwriter. The resulting brand, debut single, album artwork and online collateral, heavily inspired by his countless worldly experiences, passions and most predominately his music.  Working with Felix on such a personal project has been an absolute pleasure.

Motherbird Mascot

Rex is our studio pet. He likes chicken, trips in the car and giving Chris the silent treatment. At the end of each year Rex runs amuck in the studio, photographing him creating the chaos is always an interesting challenge.

Motherbird Branding

Just shy of 1000gsm thick, our triplex, copper-foiled business cards are both a pleasure and a burden to carry (a belt is required when lugging around more than two at a time). We give out our stationery with pleasure, as these cards represent who Motherbird is and where we come from – the unexpected, beautiful image gracing our stationery was taken in 1945 of Dan’s grandmother, at the age of 21.

TV Set Design

Motherbird were commissioned to design the backdrop for a new kids show featured on ABC3 aptly titled ‘Studio 3′. The artwork references the amazing work of Roy Lichtenstein with a suggestion of Manga illustration also present to appeal to the shows youthful audience.

Lookbook

Gawaa Miyay developed by the exceptionally talented Lucy Simpson infuses the tradition of visual storytelling with contemporary indigenous design to create an amazing collection of Australian prints and homewares.

Motherbird was engaged to produce a look book and brand collateral, in which the natural colours of Lucy’s designswhere enhanced though careful paper selection and lovely Singer sewn binding.
