Commissioned to create a series of posters for the iconic Greville St Bookstore in Melbourne’s suburb of Prahran, Motherbird looked to capture the quirky and bespoke nature of the unique store.  Using these ideologies, a surrealist style was applied to explore the themes of curiosity, people, place and the future.

Brand Campaign

Billy Blue College of Design, a school created by industry for industry. Holding true to their chief ideology that industry permeates everything they do, Billy Blue asked Motherbird to create a campaign to announce the launch of their new Melbourne Campus.

Working from the starting point of a journey, a narrative was storyboarded with a single frame each representing one of Billy Blues principles: Thinking, Making & Connecting. Paper models were constructed, photographed and retouched, becoming the hero images of the campaign. The result was a series of images that blur the line between tangible and intangible, tactile and digital. Each model was in itself a journey and a true labor of love.

Album Artwork

Electro Pop duo Escaping April commissioned Motherbird to design their debut album. Photos taken by Motherbird in South America were used to produce photographic collages based on the themes science and space. The imagery was given an extraterrestrial feel through the use of digital collaging. This was further emphasized through a black and gold print accompanied by an exposed screen-printed disk.

GXY Search is a recruitment agency specialising in discovering young, talented and motivated candidates across the Fashion & Lifestyle, Sports, Media & Entertainment, and PR & Marketing fields. Motherbird was asked to transform their working environment to reflect the strong culture and values of the GXY team. The outcome was a series of environmental graphics, placed throughout the office foyer and meeting rooms. The graphics draw directly from GXY’s core values, represented through imagery and typography.

A tour promotion and artist representation agency, Penny Drop, has worked with artists such as Animal Collective, Girl Talk and Active Child. Looking for a total rejuvenation of their brand, Penny Drop asked Motherbird to create an identity, which resonated with the agency’s diverse client base. The result is a dynamic striped back, no nonsense brand that works with ease across an assortment of printed and online collateral.

Founded upon the belief in designer’s unrivaled ability to create impact, communicate and most importantly make people smile. International feel good project Positive Posters aims to raise awareness for global / local issues through an annual poster design competition.

From its inception Motherbird has working closely with Positive Posters to develop all branding and collateral. As a mark the rabbit represents the rapid spreading of an idea. Like the animal, the Positive Posters rabbit pops up unexpectedly in public places. Motherbird believes strongly in fostering a dialogue between design and the greater community. A true love project.

Young Professionals Group 3000 is a quarterly event hosted by Ferrier Hodgston encouraging Melbourne based professionals to strengthen their networks.

Motherbird was commissioned to design the identity and collateral for the YPG3000 brand. Pattern, colour and a playful logotype feature in each handmade paper model. When photographed these models became the hero images of the individually themed events. Start-stop animation was used to bring the models to life within an html email campaign.

Print Collateral

Katani is a surf and beach lifestyle store located on the foreshore of St Kilda. Motherbird was asked to develop a complementary sub brand to blend seamlessly into their existing identity.

Photographs taken and art directed by Motherbird on French Polynesia’s untouched coast were used as a photographic addition to Katani’s identity. These were applied to brand collateral, point of sale and online material.

Warner Music approached Motherbird to design the artwork and CD packaging for the debut single of the young, talented Australian musician, Ryan Meeking. Photography taken by Motherbird on location (Arthurs Seat, Victoria) was used to capture the depth, intrigue and somber tones of his music.
